My wife & I are considering flying our Seawind (N521GR) from Las Vegas NV (our home base) to the Bahamas for the last 2 weeks of this December. If anyone has some 'Bahamas in December' experience I would greatly appreciate hearing about it and any tip as well. Thank you, JR

Dear JR, Don't have any Bahamas experience to offer, but how about stopping by on your way? I live in the Spruce Creek Fly-In(7FL6), just south of Daytona Beach, Florida. Stay over, and it's only a short flight next morning to your gateway stop. Love to see you and your wife and Seawind going, coming, or both. I am in the final stages of completing my Seawind, and expect to be airborne about then. Checkout the website scpoa.com to download a visiting pilot's package of info. Look forward to a visit. Hope you can make it! Ed ps: Russ Kotlarek has been to the Bahamas many times, and I'm sure he can answer any question you might have.

Jr, As Ed stated I have been in the Bahamas many times and know a great deal of wonderful spots .... If you wish to call my cell number is 414-899-1077 I would be happy to give whatever information I can.
I'd love to say I'm in the final stages of finishing my Seawind but how wrong that statement would be .... LOL

Hi Mike
We did, however, the end of December, (when we visited Exuma) is not a good time to visit the Bahamas weather-wise. The flying was great until we landed when it started to rain and was rainy and windy (30-40k) for the following 4 day. I understand that summer is MUCH better. We are residence of Las Vegas. Give me a call when you visit, perhaps we can get together. My Seawind is based at N. Las Vegas airport (VGT). If you are flying your Seawind I have room in my hangar. 702 234-4737

Thanks For The Offer...... We will be flying commercial (Yuck). I will be in Vegas feb. 10-14 with the wife and kids. One just turned 21 and the other is getting married (bout time) in a few months; so it's time to have a party for them. I'll take your phone number and give you a ring. I would like to see your bird....... By the way, what is the status of VGT. I hope the mayor got slapped enough for thinking of closing it to experimentals.
I am planning on going to the Bahamas after the wedding...if I have any money left . July, August or September......Treasure Cay as the base and flying the Islands from there. How were the crosswinds at landing.?

Hi Mike,
I’m not sure of our schedule as that’s a 3-day weekend for us but give me a call anyway. VGT should remain open for the foreseeable future as, (like many airports), experimental accidents are very few compared to the record of certified aircraft. About the Bahamas, landing at Exuma the winds were 20-25k and 30 degrees off the nose. The good news is that the runway was long, wide and in good condition so the landing was uneventful.
